Safety, Health & Environment
Public safety, the health and well being of all those working with Rok and the protection of the local and global environment are our highest priorities.
By being inclusive rather than exclusive, proactive rather than reactive, practical rather than theoretical, Rok is nurturing a positive culture throughout the organisation that is the pre requisite of a safe, healthy & environmentally responsible and efficient company. Rok's excellent record has been built up through good communications and the good practice of everyone involved.
'Our aim is to ensure everyone feels responsible for making sure we all get home safe and well each and every day'
Shaun Davis, Group Safety, Health & Environmental Director
Rok is committed to operating without causing harm to any citizens, partners, the public or the environment. This commitment extends to working with other parties and stakeholders for the overall protection of people and the environment and also towards achieving continuous improvement within Rok and our industry. Rok's current safety, health & environmental strategy; objectives & targets and annual improvement plan builds on previous years and has been extended to include the environment. It is supported by other key performance indicators within the organisation.
The Board has set a ceiling on our Accident Frequency Rate (AFR) which it expects all regions of the business to help attain. The ceiling has been set with continuous improvement in mind and supports the construction industry drive for improvement and specifically the Government's “Revitalising Health & Safety” initiative. The Board expects all regions to be operating below the ceiling by the end of 2010 and hopes many areas will achieve an AFR near zero as soon as possible since our overall goal is naturally to have an accident and injury free workplace.
In order to achieve these goals, all regions are required to put together their own long term safety, health & environmental strategies in the form of a ‘Commitment Statement' based on the Group safety, health & environmental strategy; objectives & targets and annual improvement plan. These statements are communicated to the region and subject to regular review at the quarterly Group safety, health & environmental performance review meetings. Outcomes of these meetings are communicated on the company intranet ‘Roknet' to ensure all citizens are kept up to date on progress.
